Re: Help required

Liming Liu <andliu@...>

Hi Umesh,

And also I have another way to do the cf development, deploy the cloud foundry on one box:

https://github.com/virtualcloudfoundry/cf-azure-deployment/tree/master/cf-lite

here’s the sample scripts to do the deployment:

terraform apply -var prefix="cf-blabla" -var subscription_id="<your subsciption id>" -var client_id="<your client id>" -var client_secret="<your client secret>" -var tenant_id="<your tenant id>" -var ssh_user_username="cfcf" -var ssh_public_key_filename="./ssh_key.pub" -var auto_deploy_bosh="enabled" -var auto_deploy_cf="enabled" -var location="eastasia"

after run this, you would get one dev box, and one box, and one cf box.

You can login into the dev box to do the cf push and so on. (using cfcf and the ssh_key.priv to connect to it)

it’s not an official release, but normally I use it for cf feature development.

Feel free to shoot me one email if you have problem using it.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Umesh,

Just got message from cf dev team, the cfdev plugin only available on windows 10 and macos for now.

And here’s the tracking issue for the support on Linux box: https://github.com/cloudfoundry-incubator/cfdev/issues/18

So maybe you should use a windows 10 or windows server 2016 vm to use the cfdev 😊

I also will try it later. Will post the result on this thread.

Thanks

Andy

Dear Scott,

Thanks a lot for prompt reply !!!

I tried running the commands however I didn't get the plugin from CF community.

[root@GBAZUKSL025 ~]# cf uninstall-plugin pcfdev

OK
Plugin pcfdev 0.30.0 successfully uninstalled.
[root@GBAZUKSL025 ~]# cf install-plugin cfdev

I believe, it will not work till you make some tweaking in PFC Dev as per specific platform.

Please let me know if you have any other troubleshooting steps to follow.

Hi Umesh.

This will not work. CF Dev is designed to run on your laptop, not on public Cloud. Right now, it supports MacOS only.

Hi Umesh,

From the error message:

VBoxManage: error: VMDK: cannot write allocated data block in '/root/.pcfdev/vms/pcfdev-v0.549.0/pcfdev-v0.549.0-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_DISK_FULL)

I think that’s due to the disk is full.

Thanks,

Re: Entity Relationship Diagram #cf

Daniel Jones

Hi,

I don't think there is, but a quick web search shows that there are tools that you can connect to the Cloud Controller database that will generate an ERD.

[FEEDBACK REQUESTED] Brokers MAY receive update request with no parameters or plan change

Lozev, Georgi

Hello CF Broker authors,

As part of the efforts to improve the workflows and the user experience related to services in Cloud Foundry the following proposal was born [1].

The idea is to add the name of the service instance in CF as part of the context information passed to the brokers on provision and update requests. This will allow broker authors to do things like displaying dashboards with more useful information than the service instance guid.

We have a suspicion that sending an update request with no parameters or plan change may break some existing brokers and we’d like to get some early feedback on that.

Could you please elaborate if you are a broker author and think this might be a breaking change for you?

You could reach the Services API Team by replying to this email or in our Slack channel [2].

High Availability in Cloud Foundry #cf

s.yousouf@...

Hi all,

I am conducting a research whether we can ensure that application instances run in different availability zones (AZs) to guarantee their high availability.

Generally, how do you guarantee HA for your applications and the apps of customers? According to the description of the Diego Auction (https://docs.cloudfoundry.org/concepts/diego/diego-auction.html), first priority is to choose Diego cells with correct software stack and sufficient resources; distribution over different AZs is a second priority. Therefore an app might be running in only one AZ.

Also, how can we detect in which AZs the applications are running? We checked the output of CC REST APIs v2 and v3 and of cf tool but didn’t find anything useful there.

Going one step further, can we do more than only detect such cases in our CF installations and warn users? Is there tooling or APIs to rebalance the instances without restarting or pausing the apps?

Thanks in advance,

Shenol

Subject: [cf-bosh] BOSH PMC refactoring part 2 – moving CPIs out of incubation

Dear friends of BOSH,

The BOSH project management committee (PMC) proposes to promote the most mature and widely used CPIs from incubation to full project status. Specifically, we want to promote these CPIs
  • AWS CPI [1]
  • OpenStack CPI [2]
  • VSphere CPI [3]
  • Google CPI [4]
  • Azure CPI [5]

Promoting the projects has some impact on their users, depending on how you consume the CPIs
  • We will move the repositories from the cloudfoundry-incubator to the cloudfoundry organization in github. Github takes care of redirecting from the old repository location to the new one, so all links and references to the old repositories should still work.
  • References on bosh.io currently include the github organization name [6]. In the past, there have been issues with people consuming outdated releases from bosh.io after they had been renamed or moved – we might need a similar mechanism of redirecting that github provides to avoid that.

Please reach out to by replying to this mail or contacting me personally if you have questions, concerns, or comments.

Warm regards
Marco

PS: cross-posted on cf-developers for greater reach and potential experiences about previous promotions from incubator to full project.

Thank you for your reply.
I have fixed this problem by adding encryption into uaa.yml
Still having another exception but uncommment the SAML key configuration will solve it.

Notice: [Cloud Controller] capi-release is removing debian_nfs_server

Charles Hansen <chansen@...>

Hi all,

capi-release is removing the debian_nfs_server job and package. It was deprecated in January 2016 and replaced with webdav. We still support connecting to nfs, but we no longer provide an nfs server.

To follow the full extent of this work, you can see the tracker story here:

Please feel free to reach out on slack if you have any questions:

Thanks,
- CAPI team
