CF Application Runtime PMC: Eirini Project Lead Call for Nominations

Eric Malm

Hi, everyone,

Julian "Dr. Julz" Friedman, the Project Lead for the Eirini team within the Application Runtime PMC, is stepping down from the project, as he is now focusing on other open-source community contributions. We thank him for his extensive service.

The Eirini team, based in Europe, now has an opening for its project lead. Project leads must be nominated by a Cloud Foundry Foundation member. Please send nominations directly to me or in reply to this message no later than 11:59 PM PST on Monday, November 9, 2020.

Also, if you have any questions about the role or the nomination process, as described in the CFF governance documents (https://www.cloudfoundry.org/governance/cff_development_operations_policy/), please let me know.

Thanks,
Eric Malm, CF Application Runtime PMC Lead

Stratos 4.2.0 Release

Richard Cox

Hi All,

It gives me great pleasure to announce Stratos 4.2.0.

This release includes the new Kubernetes and Helm extensions. These have been donated to the Cloud Foundry Foundation by SUSE and with this release are now part of upstream Stratos. What does this mean? You can now....
  • Connect to multiple Kubernetes clusters, browse resources and with the Stratos Metrics component see cluster metrics.
  • Connect multiple Helm Repositories and Artifact Hub to browse Helm Charts and view their details.
  • Install a Helm Chart and easily providing configuration values.
  • Browse Kubernetes Workloads and dive into their details.

We welcome your feedback, comments and bug reports. Please feel free to raise them in github (https://github.com/cloudfoundry/stratos) or reach out directly to us in slack (#stratos).

For those that would like to learn more about the new Kubernetes and Helm features we encourage attending one of our sessions at the upcoming Cloud Foundry Summit.
Regards,

Richard Cox
on behalf of the Stratos team

cf-for-k8s branch updates

Andrew Costa <ancosta@...>

Hello cf-for-k8s users of cf-dev,

As part of the preparation for the 1.0 release of cf-for-k8s, the Release Integration team is making some changes to the branches of the repository. This may require action for consumers of the repository the rely on either of the changing branches.

  1. The default branch of the repository is now `develop` instead of `master`
  2. The `master` branch from which releases are made is renamed to `main`
We don't expect this to be a particularly disruptive change for our current users but do expect CI resources consuming the repository by the default or `master` branch instead of release tags will need to be updated to consume the `main` branch.

If you have any concerns, please reach out to us in the #cf-for-k8s slack channel.

Thanks,
Andrew and Dave (CF Release Integration team)

Subject: [cf-dev] Call for maintainer: UAA Go CLI

Hello!

The UAA continues to take inventory of the projects it maintains. We've concluded that we will not continue to invest in the Go CLI project. That project has not reached a 1.0 release, nor has it left the incubator. We know there are many reasons that make a Go based CLI more desirable than a Ruby CLI. Unfortunately, the number of projects and users who rely on cf-uaac is high enough that the UAA team needs to continue to provide support for it.

If somebody in the community wants to maintain the UAA go cli, please reach out. If no maintainer is found, we will move this project into the attic at the end of 2020.

Thanks!

... we'll take a break this month.

As always, please reach out to me directly or chime in on the #CAB Slack channel if you have anything you would like to present for the next call in November.

Proposed deprecation of standalone Log Cache CLI

Jesse Weaver

Hello, folks.

We're considering dropping support for the standalone Log Cache CLI. This is separate from the Log Cache CF CLI plugin, which provides cf tail, cf log-meta and cf query. The standalone CLI was originally created to support a standalone Log Cache running in K8s without CF, which is a use case that we do not see widely used at this time.

We're basing this decision on the very low download counts for the standalone plugin. It has represented less than 1% of downloads over all of the Log Cache CLI releases. (For instance, the long-standing 2.1.0 release had around 15,000 total downloads of the CLI plugins for the various OSs, compared to less than 100 for all of the standalone command builds combined.)

This would take effect with the upcoming 4.0.0 release, which should be coming out within the month. If you rely on the standalone CLI, please give us that feedback.

Thank you!

Jesse Weaver

Shannon Coen

Members of the CF K8s Networking team will be on zoom tomorrow (Wednesday, September 30) from 10-10:30am PDT hosting office hours for the project. We welcome questions related to routing, load balancing, and security of traffic for applications and platform APIs in all data paths; ingress, east-west, and egress. We'll also be happy to share what we're working on and where we're headed.

The zoom link can be found on the CFF community calendar at https://www.cloudfoundry.org/community-calendar/
