For supportability reasons we need the app to identify itself when
connecting to external services.
application_id is not suitable in this case as the operator/admin

Just to clarify your reference to [1], the proxy has keep alive support for
ssh connections - it's the HTTP client used for authentication that was not
configured with a keep-alive.
