Happy Friday, CF world!

Earlier today, I clicked a button in the Release Integration team’s Concourse pipeline called “ship-it-major”, which means I can finally announce the general availability of cf-deployment[0]!

If you haven’t heard of cf-deployment, allow me to introduce you: cf-deployment is now the preferred OSS tooling for deploying Cloud Foundry. It leverages the latest BOSH features, uses individual component releases, and considerably simplifies the previously arduous process of manifest generation.

Most importantly, it replaces cf-release[1].

Today starts the timer for cf-release’s end of life. We plan to continue shipping updates to cf-release through January 31, 2018. At that point, we’ll thank cf-release for its service and put it in the attic. (Whether cf-release ever sparked joy is up for debate, but it’s probably safe to say that it definitely no longer does.)

For operators who are currently running deployments based on cf-release, we’ve got tooling for you to migrate[2] to cf-deployment. The tooling has successfully been used to migrate at least one production environment. We think the tooling should support most production operators, but we’re eagerly looking for feedback. Please reach out — in the #cf-deployment Slack channel[3] or on GitHub issues — if you think the tooling doesn’t meet the needs for your deployment.

Also, thanks to all the CF teams and folks in the community who braved the dangerous waters of pre-GA tooling. Your feedback was invaluable.
